Tis the Season of Christmas! Yet Do You Hear What I Hear?

I really wasn’t planning on this post today (12/27/2014)—but had found myself “hungry” yesterday, the day after Christmas… Only then to be unexpectedly gratified, thanks to the gift of EWTN, for which I am grateful…. So much so that I wanted to share it with you; just in case you, too, may find yourself feeling hungry as well…

After-all, Christmas is here… Christmas is here!  Still!  Not just a Day… but Season!   Not beginning at the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in November… nor at the lighting of the first (or 2nd/4th) purple Advent candle within our Season of Preparation & Hope… Rather, the Christmas Season begins on Christmas itself [starting with Christmas Eve Vigil]… continuing on through the Solemnity of the “Epiphany” [celebrated on January 6th (on our 12th day post Christmas); or instead upon the Sunday between January 2nd – 8th; to be celebrated January 4, 2015 this season]; ultimately concluding upon the Baptism of our Lord that following Sunday [1/11/2015].

Still, there I was yesterday, Christmas Day 2 (Dec. 26th), in such odd silence.  Yet how can this be? …Surely, music does have a way of “feeding” us—nourishing both heart & soul—yet suddenly there was none.  There were no Christmas tunes whatsoever to be found!… Following the weeks of being force-fed, long before we’re really ready to “eat”… from Thanksgiving day (at times sooner) on, with continuous 24/7 Christmas [aka “holiday”] songs only!  Abundant sources all around… Gluttony to the ears!  [Hehe… “Ho-ho” that is! :)].  Yet, now, as the actual celebration arrives, and the true Christmas season begins—the music abruptly stops… Literally disappears, upon midnight, as the 25th becomes 26th, and the switch gets flipped… going from 100% Christmas to 0%!  [even on the local “Christian” radio station here]… From feast to famine! …as we went from “Silent Night” and “O Holy Night” to “Tonight’s Gonna Be A Good Night” and “Oh What a Night”!   Truly, how sad to hear how quickly our Lord got put aside and forgotten, only for them to now feed us Rock’s/Pop’s “top 500” songs of all time…  Despite now being the appropriate time for that little drummer boy to play his best for Him!

Yes, twas the night after Christmas, and all through the airwaves, not a Christmas song to be heard!

Oh so silent upon December 26th

No longer with any outside sources feeding us such joyful tunes.  Silent night now, indeed…

When, what to my wandering eyes [& ears] should appear? …but EWTN!

Ah, yes, as I turned the television on last evening, I caught sight of “Life on the Rock” as it was ending, just in time to hear Collin Raye and Andrea Thomas singing “Silent Night”!  What a lovely treat it was (honestly brought tears to my eyes)! …Followed by the EWTN Nightly News, which spoke of the following music production by the Piano Guys… Truly glorious and gratifying, indeed.  Thanks be to God!

The Piano Guys’ “Angels We Have Heard On High”, with over a thousand people coming together [published 12/12/2014]:

…Angels, from the realms of glory, wing your flight o’er all the earth; ye who sang creation’s story, now proclaim Messiah’s birth!  Gloria, Gloria… Though an Infant now we view Him, He shall fill His Father’s throne. Gather all the nations to Him, every knee shall then bow down!  Gloria in excelsis Deo!  Gloria in excelsis Deo!

Still feast with me, won’t you??  Let us rejoice… And share the Gift… Tis the Season!!

Lord, that we may hear!
