HOPE’s What We Crave

Drops of Grace, Reign!

“Crave” by For King & Country:
To rise above, To love again

Let us feast, then, upon Hope-filled words

served below courtesy of our Saints & saints-to-be!

“Man’s great, true hope which holds firm in spite of all disappointments can only be God—God who has loved us and continues to love us to the end, until all is accomplished.” Pope Benedict XVI

“Wait upon the Lord; be faithful to His
commandments; He will elevate your hope… Wait upon Him by avoiding all sin. He
will come, doubt it not… Place all your hope in the Heart of Jesus; it is a
safe asylum; for he who trusts in God is sheltered and protected by His mercy.
To this firm hope, join the practice of virtue, and even in this life you will
begin to taste the ineffable joys of Paradise.” Saint Bernard of Clairvaux

“That fear is useful—which is buoyed up by hope—and
is not weighed down by despair.” Saint Isidore of Seville

“Confession heals, confession justifies, confession grants pardon of sin. All hope consists in confession. In confession there is a chance for mercy. Believe it firmly. Do not doubt, do not hesitate, never despair of the mercy of God. Hope and have confidence in confession.” Saint Isidore of Seville

“The more a person loves God, the more reason he has to hope in Him. This hope produces in the Saints an unutterable peace, which they preserve even in adversity, because as they love God, and know how beautiful He is to those who love Him, they place all their confidence and find all their repose in Him alone.” Saint Alphonsus Liguori

“As a mother delights in taking her child on her knees, in caressing & feeding him, so does our God delight in treating with love & tenderness those souls who give themselves entirely to Him, and place all their hope(s) in His goodness & bounty.” –Saint Alphonsus Liguori

“Behold Jesus Christ crucified, Who is the only foundation of our hope.  He is our Mediator & Advocate; the victim & sacrifice for our sins.  He is goodness & patience itself.  His mercy is moved by the tears of sinners, and He never refuses pardon & grace to those who ask it with a truly contrite & humbled heart.” Saint Charles Borromeo

“God wishes us not to rest upon anything but His infinite goodness; do not let us expect anything, hope anything, or desire anything but from Him, and let us put our trust & confidence in Him alone.” −Saint Charles Borromeo

You have not suffered or do not suffer in vain… Succeed, therefore, in giving a Christian value to your suffering, succeed in sanctifying your suffering with constant & generous hope in Him who comforts & gives strength.  I want you to know that you are not alone, or separated, or abandoned in your Via Crucis; beside you, each one of you, is the Blessed Virgin, who considers you her most beloved children.” Pope John Paul II

Hope, O My Soul, Hope.” −Saint Teresa of AvilaWay quote. Hope_MakeMePossessYou_revised 2Prayer to Our Lady of HopeO Lady of Peace, Mother of Tranquility, Mother of Hope, look upon me in this time of my weakness & unrest.  Teach my searching heart to know that God’s love for me is unchanging and unchangeable; and that true human love can only begin & grow by touching His Love.  Let your gentle peace which this world cannot give be always with me.  And help me to bring this same peace into the lives of others.  O Lady of Peace, our Mother of Hope, pray for us.  Amen.

2/22/2014 Addendum:  On a personal note, it has actually taken me 3 long years to realize that I’ve been starving for Hope — for many, many years — and I only recently understood that it was because I was missing a key ingredient… I was lacking in trust.  So if, like me, you’ve been hungry for hope, I hope [pray] you shall be filled!  love–EF

  1. Hi Eileen,
What a wonderful “feast of hope” you have here for us! Hope is such a powerful virtue and I loved reading what the saints had to say about hope and trust. Thank you 🙂

    • Thank you so much, Mary, for coming to my “table” here. 🙂 …God is so good. I started 2013 determined to focus on my need for trust, which ultimately revealed hope to me in these recent months — so very connected, as the words of the Saints show, too. God bless.

  2. Blessed Hope! And you got it just right: we CRAVE it, even if we don’t realize it. It’s the only thing that can give use true encouragement in the present and sure strength for the future. And as for the past, we have only to look back at all the dark times and compare them with the certain confidence we now have of seeing, in 20/20 hindsight, that the Lord was in that place though, like Jacob wrestling with the angel, “we did not know it!” (Gen. 28:16-17) Thanks so much, Ei! (BTW, I’m copying and pasting your references for my spiritual journal. Saves me a lot of work!)

    • Thank you so much for your affirming words of hope! However, did you notice the “cost” of such quote services, my sir?? … 2 or 3 words of prayer requested for any grace Mother sees fit please… but only if you get the chance, otherwise it’s on the House. :). Blessings to you!
